I am an avid quilter and also I am very tall. Basting is very unpleasant for me because I have to lean my 6' 1" frame over a quilt for hours as part of the basting process and I always walk away in pain. Besides, the first (and last) quilt I basted had more wrinkles and pinched fabric on the back than I care to recall.

Like most of us, I used to think basting is a necessary part of quilting on a domestic machine. Well, guess what? It is not.
